Recyclus' Li-ion recycling process is industry leading, capable of safely dealing with the 5+ types of Li-ion battery chemistry, in any combination, at any one time.
Moving the industry towards 100% recyclable, zero-landfill solutions, in line with the COP26 agenda & the transition towards electric transport.
Providing end-of-life solutions and strategic support in the UK battery recycling market, to establish the UK's first capability for industrial-scale battery recycling.
Making sure that resources are used more efficiently and kept in use for longer to minimise waste and reduce environmental impacts by promoting recycling, remanufacturing and re-use.
The Lead-Acid Battery
The lead-acid battery recycling industry is a major polluter, with 18,000 tonnes of spent batteries incinerated each year in the UK alone. This presents Recyclus with a unique opportunity to use hydrometallurgical processes to reduce the carbon footprint by 85%, cut slag by >90% and recycle the plastics and lead. The global lead battery market will reach $95bn USD by 2026, and is set to increase given the continued demand for vehicles, making sustainable recycling an absolute must for the industry to meet demand.
The Lithium-ion Battery
Nearly every fourth battery is a rechargeable lithium battery. Most are embedded in electric appliances and, with a growth in electric vehicles, there is an estimated $6bn USD opportunity from recoverable materials by 2030, and $45bn USD second-life battery applications market. There is currently no UK capability for the recovery of these materials, with spent batteries being exported to Europe, providing a unique opportunity for Recyclus to establish a capability in the UK and beyond.
Recyclus' state-of-the-art technology extracts the lead-acid paste using water, converting it into 99.99% leady oxide (Pb/PbO). Critically, this process has zero sulphur oxide or nitrous oxide emissions, and cuts slag waste by >90% in comparison to existing incumbents.
This also supports the underlying economics of PbO production, which is currently $255 USD per tonne. The capex on this is 1/7th the cost of incumbent technology.
The Recyclus Group are providing a solution for the dangers posed in the storage and transportation of Li-ion batteries, through our ADR transport boxes, designed to meet ADR regulations.
Our boxes boast a British-engineered design, specially created to deliver an unparalleled level of safety, value and longevity. The boxes are safe for most industrial applications, with certified power ratings up to 20kWh. This modular approach means any damaged parts can be easily swapped out for ease of repair and lower costs.
The transport boxes are filled with layers of Lithium Battery Fire Protection Pillows that are designed to prevent a lithium fire occurring during the storage and transportation of lithium batteries, prioritising the safety and sustainability of battery recycling practices.
